Jamie-Lynn Sigler reminisces on starring in ‘Through The Rain’ Music Video

Sopranos and Broadway Actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler was a guest on the podcast The Lady Gang, and after sharing some dating advice she was asked about her time starring in Mariah Carey’s 2002 music video for Through The Rain. Jamie portrayed Mariah’s mother through out the cinematic music video that told a story of an interracial love that Mariah saw reflected in her own life. Jamie said that this question is a rarity for her as she says “I don’t think anyone has ever asked me about it,” but she was eager to share.

Here’s what’s Jamie said

“So Mariah Carey has this song called Through The Rain, and she wanted to do a music video about the story of her parents and their interracial relationship in the sixties. She was a massive Sopranos fan at the time and asked me to play her mom in the music video. I shot it in New York City. I remember it was the day I was opening on Broadway as Belle in Beauty and The Beast, and we made it work where i literally shot the video all day and then the last scene they shot of me was on a bus, and we rode the bus to the theatre. And they literally dropped me off and i’m in all my sixties garb, but I showed up the day before for my costume fitting and I got to meet the Queen. I’ll never forget, she was like sitting in a cathedral getting her hair and makeup done at the end of the long aisle and no one else was in the cathedral and like they were like “She’s ready to meet you now” and i walked in and it was literally like “Am I meeting God? What’s going on?” But she was so lovely, she was so sweet; It was amazing. It was a very surreal surreal moment”

Interviewer - “Did she have the Honey light on her when you met her?”

Jamie - “What’s a Honey light?”

Interviewer - “She has a guy follow her with a light, much bigger than these, and it’s the right color to “Mariah Carey Honey” her at all times.”

Jamie - “If I could imagine, probably because i’m looking at it- i’m imagining it now, literally it was the long walk down to the end of the front of the church, and it was just her and her makeup artist like getting her makeup done. Like she was having a zen moment getting ready. Like there was no hustle and bustle around her whatsoever. I remember she spoke very slow and intentional. But she was lovely she was so sweet. But her stylist said I had fat calves. I’ll never forget that. I remember her stylist was a real asshole to me - a guy- I’ll never forget it. He was trying to put these like vintage sixties boots on me and couldn’t zip them up and he looked up at me and says “has anyone told you that you have fat calves?” Nobody would be like that today. I’m sorry that took a hard left after you asked me about Mariah Carey.”
