Billboard : “All I Want For Christmas Is You” enters the new year at #2

For the first time since 2019, Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You didn’t hold it’s number 1 spot over to the new year. In this weeks Billboard Hot 100 chart, dated for January 6, the festive classic fell down to the #2 spot after two weeks at #1 in December. The top spot was reclaimed by Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, which peaked at #1 for the first time ever in 2023. Brenda’s team has been pushing a very strong promotional campaign for the song this past year with a new music video release and social media content, while Mariah didn’t go as hard for promotion and instead focused on performing and promoting her sold out concert shows. Importantly, 2024 is the 30th anniversary of the Merry Christmas album, so it’s safe to say this year will be one of the strongest promotional years for All I Want For Christmas Is You and the album. It’s nice that we let another Christmas hit maker reach #1, especially after 2022 when everyone suddenly wanted to be the “Queen Of Christmas,” but trust that Mariah will be back in her comfortable thrown at #1.
